On January 25, 1941 the Leningrad Aviation Institute (LAI) was founded on the former premises of the Leningrad Road Institute (Gastello Street, 15) by the Decree of the Soviet Government. 1200 students were enrolled in three faculties of Aircraft Construction, Instrumentation and Motor Building. During the Great Patriotic War the Institute operated an aircraft and tank repair shop. While some of the students and the faculty standing for the city, the LAI was evacuated.

SUAI Opens Regional Boiling Point Center

March 4, 5 2020 SUAI will open a Boiling Point Center within its premises supported by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives.

The Boiling Point Center is a unique instrument for Russia and abroad training leaders, creating and promoting teams, projects and initiatives to ensure social and economic growth in Russian education, public management, digital economy and technological development.

Today the number of Boiling Point Centers under the Agency for Strategic Initiatives reaches 80 locations in more than 30 Russian cities. SUAIs Boiling Point Center will be a new space for group work in St. Petersburg aiming at developing highly demanded skills, specialties and professions with a possibility to demonstrate, test and progress.

We invite you to the opening ceremony on March 4, 5 in 2020 attended by the city and university administrations, citys education, business, innovations and entities.

SUAI at AeroTech 2020

February 26-28, 2020 Tokyo hosted the Aerospace Technology & Components Expo AeroTech 2020, with universities, R&D centers and industries arriving to represent achievements and establish contacts.

A SUAI delegation headed by the Rector Yulia Antokhina participated in the exhibition, meeting worlds leading aerospace entities.

Kyushu University, NIPPON DENKA KOGYOSHO CO, Unipulse Corporation, Jinpo4.0, alfaTKG Co., URYU Seisaku and Sigma Corporation are among new partners of SUAIs institutes and laboratories. These are large companies with activities and businesses in robotics, aerospace technologies, electronics and mechanics.

AeroTech 2020 was a significant event promoting SUAI in the world of aerospace industries, science and education.

SUAI Participates in XIX International Conference on Quality Control

March 13, 2020 a delegation from SUAIs Institute of Fundamental Training and Technological Innovations took part in the XIX International Scientific and Practical Conference on Quality Control in Moscow.

The annual Conference has taken place since 2002 with participants from industries, certification authorities, universities and consulting companies.

SUAIs students presented reports and answered to the audiences questions.

SUAI Develops Energetics of Future

SUAIs Engineering Laboratory opens a new branch called Laboratory of Energetics to train experts required in modern times. The new laboratory will teach digital energetics, smart networks of power supply and latest competences within WorldSkills initiatives.

SUAI, a strong university in electronics, energetics and electromechanics, is a suitable base for developing innovations using well-equipped laboratories.

The Rector Yulia Antokhina opened the new laboratory under SUAIs Engineering Laboratory, which now unites 7 up-to-date R&D laboratories.

SUAIs Boiling Point Center on TV

March 11, 2020 the Russian TV1 visited the Boiling Point Center at SUAI to broadcast the freshly opened science & leisure area in St.Petersburg.

The newsmakers explored laboratories and halls of the Center, with the organizers answering questions on scheduled events, target audience and opportunities for developing sci-tech and soft skills in St.Petersburg. 

The TV broadcast will encourage people visit workshops, talks and master-classes at SUAI.

SUAI Launches Technological Entrepreneurship Program

March 6, 2020 SUAIs students from the Institute of Entrepreneurship Technologies and the Institute of Innovative Technologies in Electromechanics and Robotics had the first meeting to initiate the Technological Entrepreneurship Educational Program under the Engineering Laboratory at SUAI.

The Engineering Laboratory coordinates practice-oriented projects and searches for technological solutions. The program aims at creating the ambience of entrepreneurship at SUAI enabling students to develop business skills, to develop, structure and present projects, to master teamwork and leadership.

Divided into three teams, students will work on technological projects in robotics to build a prospective and cost efficient business model.

Boiling Point Center Opened at SUAI

March 4, 5 2020 SUAI holds the opening ceremony of the SUAI St.Petersburg Boiling Point Center starting with over 740 visitors, lectures, master-classes and sci-tech expositions.

There are 88 boiling point centers in 54 Russian cities bringing together students, business, science, authorities and social campaigners.

In the ceremony the SUAI Rector Yulia Antokhina supported Boiling Point principles of knowledge exchange and open discussions.

The brand new Boiling Point Center at SUAI is stylish and modern, said the guests of the ceremony from WorldSkills initiative, city administration and engineering industry.

SUAIs Boiling Point Center is going to attract more than 15 000 participants during the first year of operation, with over 300 events planned.

SUAI at Opening of International Exhibition in Tokyo

February 26, 2020 Tokyo opened the Aerospace Technology & Components Expo AeroTech 2020 to gather leading science and education as well as largest aerospace enterprises. A SUAI delegation, headed by the Rector Yulia Antokhina, arrived in Tokyo to represent Russian aerospace industry and R&D.

In the Exhibition industries, universities, R&D and investing companies will share experience and establish new contacts. The participants will see workshops, reports and business meetings.

New Project by SUAIs Engineering Lab

February 18, SUAIs Engineering Lab presented a new project on AI development.

In the presentation students discussed methods and technologies of machine learning, image and text processing, developing AI for robotic complexes, creating a virtual lab, developing algorithms for data analysis etc.

Georgy Korol, the Head of the AI Lab, spoke on opportunities of electronic computers enabling AI to perform most important tasks on Earth and far in outer space.

The Engineering Lab will exhibit its project at citys and national hi-tech events.

American Astronaut Visits SUAI

American Astronaut Visits SUAI

February 15, 2020 for the first time SUAI was visited by an American astronaut Anna Lee Fisher with a lecture attended by over 400 citizens of St.Petersburg.

Anna Lee Fisher talked on Innovations in space exploration and working at the space station. This lecture also promoted future CosmoStart Forum to be held in November 2020 and dedicated to the 50th anniversary of launching Lunokhod-1 (moon walker).

The meeting was at the same time related to the International day of women in science (February 11th).

In the lecture Anna Lee Fisher answered questions on her childhood and dreams about flying into the space, applying documents to participate in the space mission and life onboard.

The American astronaut had a tour around the Palace of Chesma and a discussion with the SUAIs Rector Yulia Antokhina.

Session on Projecting and Introducing Principles of Training Factories at SUAI

February 11, 2020 SUAIs Da Vinci Hall gathered experts talking on R&D, WorldSkills standards in educational process for secondary professional education and higher education.

The Committee on Science and Higher Education in St. Petersburg, coordinator between local education, industry and technologies in building training factory models, joined the Session, opened by the Rector of SUAI Yulia Antokhina.

The Rector Yulia Antokhina talked on importance of modern education for the todays human resources market, followed with reports by E. Lyubashev, Zh. Kotina. I. Berdnikov and I. Anisimova on current challenged for WorldSkills standards.

Creative Activities

For decades, SUAI graduates leading designers, chief engineers, heads of large industrial enterprises have been shaping the aircraft, the space and the instrumentation engineering.
