On January 25, 1941 the Leningrad Aviation Institute (LAI) was founded on the former premises of the Leningrad Road Institute (Gastello Street, 15) by the Decree of the Soviet Government. 1200 students were enrolled in three faculties of Aircraft Construction, Instrumentation and Motor Building. During the Great Patriotic War the Institute operated an aircraft and tank repair shop. While some of the students and the faculty standing for the city, the LAI was evacuated.

SUAI 76 years

                                                               January 25, 2017 On the day of the Holy Martyr Tatyana, the patroness of all Russian students, the University celebrated its 76th Anniversary, merging two holidays. Celebrations began early in the morning with music and show right in the entrance hall! Photos with astronaut, quiz on SUAI, balloons and limited edition calendars made the event unforgettable!

Poetry of Revolution and Poiesis of History Conference

October 28, 2017 SUAI hosted the Poetry of Revolution and Poiesis of History Conference within the St. Petersburg Days of Philosophy-2017 a forum for scholars to mark the centennial anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution.

Poetry might be said a minor to history. Yet any major human achievement has a trail of poetry in it, hence, there is poetry in every revolution. But for poetry inspiring and elevating them, revolutions would never happen. Attuning to the music of revolution, finding its poetry and poetry predicting history were the themes for discussions. The Conference was organized by the Institute of Philosophy of the St. Petersburg State University and the SUAI Scientific and Educational Centre for Problems of Religion, Philosophy, and Culture, headed by Konstantin V. Losev. The Conference proceedings are to be published.

5th "Philosophy and Culture of the Information Society" International Conference at SUAI

October 26-28, 2017 the SUAI Faculty of Humanities held its annual International Conference on Philosophy and Culture of the Information Society within the St. Petersburg Days of Philosophy-2017.

On October 26 the St. Petersburg State University welcomed the participants to open the forum.

On the following day the SUAI premises in Lensoveta Street became the venue for the Conference with Konstantin V. Losev, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, opening the Conference, and Viktor M. Boer, the Vice-Rector for Educational Work, saying a welcome speech.

Over 50 guests attended the Plenary Meeting with 30 reports by SUAI professors T. Smirnova, S. Orlov, S. Korobkova and other Russian and international speakers. The Power and Society: Lessons and Prospects Section, dedicated to the anniversary of SUAI professor, Doctor of Historical Sciences, T. Smirnova, was opened within the Conference.

An informal workshop of October 28 continued the discussion of the Conference topical issues.

Global Partnership Week at SSPU

September 27-30, 2017 Shanghai Polytechnic University welcomed the Global Partnership Week (GPW) a forum for universities.

SUAI was represented by Yulia A. Antokhina, the Rector of SUAI, Konstantin V. Losev, the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Victor M. Boer, the Vice-Rector for Educational Work, Igor A. Pavlov, the Vice-Rector for Administration and Control, Aleksey V. Rabin, the Head of the SUAI Center for Research Coordination.

This time the GPW motto was University Industry Collaboration, with the discussions focused on training application-oriented talents, teachers of double-qualification (teacher-expert), technology sharing,  innovation, entrepreneurship, dual certification for students (university degree and qualification certificate).

At the GPW SUAIs Rector Yulia A. Antokhina presented the Universitys achievements in education, research and international cooperation. She also outlined the prospects, including Engineering 4.0 and WorldSkills projects.

September 28 Yulia A. Antokhina spoke before the SSPU Supervisory Board to promote SUAIs WordSkills advances.

September 29 Within the GWP, the SUAI and the SSPU administrations talked on bilateral cooperation in education, professor and student exchange and summer internships.

September 27, 2017 St. Petersburg hotel Astoria was the venue for celebrating the 68th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples Republic of China.

The Consul General of China in St.Petersburg Mrs. Guo Ming welcomed the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy S. Poltavchenko and other important guests.

SUAI, marked with its traditionally high Chinese enrollment, was represented by the Head of the International Students Sub-Department of the Department of International Affairs K. Karpova.

SUAI at Beihang University

September 24, 2017 The Beihang University (BUAA) welcomed the SUAI delegation of Yulia A. Antokhina, the Rector of SUAI, Konstantin V. Losev, the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Victor M. Boer, the Vice-Rector for Educational Work, Igor A. Pavlov, the Vice-Rector for Administration and Control, Aleksei V. Rabin, the Head of the SUAI Center for Research Coordination. The delegation was welcomed by Cheng Jiwei, the BUAA Vice-President, to talk on student exchange within the current agreement.

Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA) was formed in 1952 to develop into a structure of 30 institutes, with 3 Nobel laureates among the faculty.

It was a return visit after September 14, 2017 SUAI welcomed the BUAA delegation to negotiate the prospective fields of cooperation.

The delegation of SUAI, headed by Yulia A. Antokhina, also visited the BUAA-based Lunar Palace 1 Laboratory to meet its Director Liu Hong.

SUAI at PIIF-2017

September 20-22, 2017 The EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Center hosted the 10th St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum (PIIF) with its over 60 events highlighting technological advances in both national and international industry.

The PIIF-2017s key concept was Technology Evolution.

One of the PIIF-2017 programs main events - the plenary session on "Innovative Ecosystems and Technological Priorities" - was attended, among other industry and officials, by  Georgy S. Poltavchenko, the Governor of Saint-Petersburg, Anatoly B. Chubais, the CEO and chairman of the Executive Board of RUSNANO, Carlos Chanduvi Suarez, Chief LAC Bureau, UNIDO, Liu Kyong-gi, the Vice-Mayor of Seoul, South Korea.

SUAI with its stand attracted many interested guests.

On the PIIF-2017 premises the negotiations between Konstantin V. Losev, the SUAI Vice-Rector for International Affairs, and Carlos Chanduvi Suarez resulted in a preliminary agreement on SUAI-UNIDO cooperation in science and education.

SUAI at SPIEF17 and II Interregional Forum Strengthening of the International SME Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean

SUAI took part in the II Interregional Forum Strengthening of the International SME Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017 (SPIEF17) held on the premises of the St. Petersburg Expoforum.

SPIEF17 was attended by representatives of over 30 countries Trade and Economy ministers, diplomats, state export officials, big business.

Prior to the opening the St. Petersburg Vice-Governor S. Movchan had a meeting with the delegations of Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the meeting the St. Petersburg officials discussed the topical issues with delegates from Cuba, Ecuador, Honduras, El-Salvador, Guatemala, Venezuela, Suriname, Panama, Uruguay, and other.

At SPIEF17 SUAI was represented by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs K. Losev and L. Kheyfets and V. Kheyfets of the SUAI Department of International Entrepreneurship to meet, among others, E. Zhikh, the Director of Russia-Latin America Business Center and sign an Agreement on Cooperation.

The Forum ended in signing an official protocol by A. Shchetinin, the Director of Latin America Department of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs A. Shchetinin and Carlos Ernesto Chanduvi Suarez, Chief of Latin America and the Caribbean Division, UNIDO.

196th Anniversary of Independence of Central American States

September 19, 2017 The Tchaikovsky Hall at Korston Hotel Moscow became the venue for celebrating the 196th anniversary of Independence of 5 Central American States Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

SUAI, a Russian home for many Latin American students, received an invitation and was represented by the SUAI Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev.

SUAI Welcomes Beihang University

September 14, 2017 an official delegation of the Beihang University, China, visited SUAI.

Previously known as the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA), it was formed in 1952 to develop into a structure of 30 institutes with over 30 000 students, faculty and administration currently rating in the top 20 of Chinese universities.

The meeting opened with SUAIs Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev reading the welcome letter by SUAI Rector Yulia A. Antokhina to be followed by speeches by Konstantin V. Losev and the BUAA Vice-President Cheng Jiwei and presentations by both Universities, including those by SUAIs Institutes of Aerospace Instruments and Systems, of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Communications, of Innovative Technologies in Electromechanics and Robotics.

The parties talked on educational and research cooperation within the New Silk Road concept.

September 7, 2017 The St. Petersburg Taurida Palace, home for the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, hosted the 26 Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan by the Consul General of Tajikistan in Saint-Petersburg Mr. Davlatali Nazrizoda.

At the reception, SUAI was represented by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Doctor of Economics, Konstantin V. Losev.

On behalf of SUAI, he congratulated Mr. Nazrizoda marking on SUAI Tajikistan student success a proof of mutual benefit and future progress.

Also, Mr. Losev presented Mr. Davlatali Nazrizoda with a memorable gift.

New Academic Year at SUAI: Bright and Loud Day of Knowledge2017

The leaving summer flooded the University grounds in Lensoveta Street with freshmen, taking photos, making friends, enjoying the performance.

SUAIs Rector Yulia A. Antokhina, the Saint-Petersburg Governor Georgy G. Poltavchenko and the honored guests opened the official ceremony. The Head of Administration of the Moscow District Vladimir N. Ushakov attended the ceremony with many others of St. Petersburg industry, science and administration.

Freshmen and guests met the Deans and the Directors. Empress Catherine II handed the keys of the Chesma Palace to the best Law students.

The celebration closed with a dance flash-mob and a fire show.

We welcome SUAI freshmen and congratulate all students on a new academic year!

SUAI welcomed Chinese officials and high-tech from the city of Wuhan, PRC. The weighty delegation were Sun Zhijun, Deputy Head of the Organizational Department of the Wuhan Municipal Committee, Song Zhiping, Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of the Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone, Lei Lijun, Director of the Organizational Department of Quinqshan District Committee, Li Weifan, Director of Organizational Department of Dongxihu District Committee, Sun Fan, Deputy Head of Wuhan Municipal Administration for International Activities, Wang Feng, Deputy Director of Wuhan Aiport Construction, Yan Changkun, Vice-CEO of Yangtze Optical Fiber and Cable Joint Stock Ltd. Co., Pan Xincheng, Chairman of BOAD GROUP Inc., Zhu Yun of Jiyuan Technical Service Ltd. Co.

The delegation was greeted by the SUAI Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev, the Head of Scientific Research Coordination Centre A. Rabin, the Head of Institute 2 A. Bestugin, the Deputy Head of Institute 2 I. Kirshina, Senior Research Associate of Department 23 O. Shakin, with E. Belich and E. Chinarova of the DIA.

A. Bestugin and O. Shakin spoke on Institute 2 educational and research activities and prospective projects provoking lively interest of the Chinese delegation.

The Chinese manufacturers paid particular attention to report on optical technologies ready to provide both facilities and funding for a mutually beneficial project the major outcome of the meeting.

For decades, SUAI graduates leading designers, chief engineers, heads of large industrial enterprises have been shaping the aircraft, the space and the instrumentation engineering.
