On January 25, 1941 the Leningrad Aviation Institute (LAI) was founded on the former premises of the Leningrad Road Institute (Gastello Street, 15) by the Decree of the Soviet Government. 1200 students were enrolled in three faculties of Aircraft Construction, Instrumentation and Motor Building. During the Great Patriotic War the Institute operated an aircraft and tank repair shop. While some of the students and the faculty standing for the city, the LAI was evacuated.

SUAI 76 years

                                                               January 25, 2017 On the day of the Holy Martyr Tatyana, the patroness of all Russian students, the University celebrated its 76th Anniversary, merging two holidays. Celebrations began early in the morning with music and show right in the entrance hall! Photos with astronaut, quiz on SUAI, balloons and limited edition calendars made the event unforgettable!

SUAI at 4th International BRAZIL-RUSSIA 2017 Forum

June 20, 2017 The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Moscow welcomed the 4th International BRAZIL-RUSSIA 2017 Forum under the auspices of the Brazil Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russia-Brazil Business Council¸ CN CEPLA and Apex-Brazil.

The Forum was attended by Michel Miguel Elias Temer Lulia, the President of Brazil, and Arkady Dvorkovich, the Russian Vice-Premier.

The opening was jointly held by Antonio Luis Espinola Salgado, the Ambassador of Brazil in Russia, Santiago Mourão, the Under-Secretary-General for International Cooperation, Development of Trade and Culture, and Sergey Vasiliev, the Chairman of the Russia-Brazil Business Council, to allow for Russian and Brazilian business and industry leaders together with Brazilian ministers to discuss the issues of trade between the countries and prospective investment in energy and infrastructure.

SUAI representative at the Forum, Konstantin Losev, the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, had a number of meetings to promote SUAI official inclusion in the joint program for cooperation of Russia, Latin America (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Honduras, El Salvador) and the Caribbean.

June 19, 2017 SUAI welcomed the official delegation of the Shanghai Second Polytechnic University (SSPU), China, of Xie Huaqing, the SSPU Vice-President, Xia Yanchun, the Head of the SSPU International Office, Liu Xiaohang, the Director of the Research Department, Xia Yanchun, the Deputy Dean of the Technical College, Shaojing Song, the Head of the Communications and Technology at SSPU Technical College, and Xu Man, the Coordinator of International Programs.

SUAI Administration Meets Secretary of Beijing Municipal Commission of Education and Heads of Beijing Leading Technical Schools

SUAI held an official meeting with Beijing Municipal Commission of Education (China) and the Commission Secretary Xu Mengjun, heads of Beijing leading technical schools and K. Losev, the SUAI Vice-Rector for International Affairs, E. Belich, the Head of the SUAI Department of International Affairs and A. Malaya, Headmistress of the St. Petersburg School No. 547 with advanced study of Chinese.

The parties had a vivid discussion on the prospects of Russian-Chinese cooperation in education, on opportunities for SUAI career guidance among Beijing high-school students, on organizational issues of Chinese student 2017-18 enrollment in SUAI.

Within the 2nd Interregional Forum Strengthening of the International SME Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean Anatoly Ovodenko, the SUAI President, the Head of the UNESCO Distant Engineering Education Department, the Head of the Iberian-Russian Center, had a meeting with Maria del Carmen Nasser de Ramos, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Cooperation of the republic of Honduras.

In the meeting the parties discussed the prospects of Russian-Latin America relations and promoted cooperation in sciences and education.

SUAI Rector Yulia Antokhina Meets Tao Zhang, Director of UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education

May 31, 2017 a meeting of the Rector of SUAI Yulia A. Antokhina with the director of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE) Tao Zhang was held. At the meeting were also present the adviser of the director of the UNESCO IITE Professor Alexander Khoroshilov, the President of SUAI and the head of UNESCO Chair Anatoly A. Ovodenko, Head of  the International Cooperation office O.V. Karelova and Deputy Head of the UNESCO Chair O.V. Mukhina.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and the prospects for cooperation between the SUAI and UNESCO IITE, including the joint organization of the World Championship on Instrumentation and Programming.

Knowledge Economy: Challenges and Opportunities International Week at SUAI

From May 22 to May 26, 2017, the International Week "Knowledge Economy: Challenges and Opportunities" was held in SUAI. Within the framework of the international week open lectures, seminars, workshops and roundtables were organized to develop the international educational model of SUAI in the light of competence approach in training of young specialists in the fields of economics, management and business.

SUAI at SPIEF17 and II Interregional Forum Strengthening of the International SME Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean

SUAI took part in the II Interregional Forum Strengthening of the International SME Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017 (SPIEF17) held on the premises of the St. Petersburg Expoforum.

SPIEF17 was attended by representatives of over 30 countries Trade and Economy ministers, diplomats, state export officials, big business.

Prior to the opening the St. Petersburg Vice-Governor S. Movchan had a meeting with the delegations of Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the meeting the St. Petersburg officials discussed the topical issues with delegates from Cuba, Ecuador, Honduras, El-Salvador, Guatemala, Venezuela, Suriname, Panama, Uruguay, and other.

At SPIEF17 SUAI was represented by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs K. Losev and L. Kheyfets and V. Kheyfets of the SUAI Department of International Entrepreneurship to meet, among others, E. Zhikh, the Director of Russia-Latin America Business Center and sign an Agreement on Cooperation.

The Forum ended in signing an official protocol by A. Shchetinin, the Director of Latin America Department of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs A. Shchetinin and Carlos Ernesto Chanduvi Suarez, Chief of Latin America and the Caribbean Division, UNIDO.

Memorandum of Understanding Signed by SUAI and Indian Institute of Finance

May 25, 2017 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between SUAI and Indian Institute of Finance, Delhi, India, in the framework of which cooperation between the two institutions in the field of education and science will be developed. In addition to it, the Rector of SUAI, Doctor of Economic Sciences Yulia Antokhina confirmed her consent to be a member of the Editorial Board of the international scientific journal Finance India. At the signing the memorandum, the director of the Institute of Entrepreneurship Technologies Artur S. Budagov and the Head of the International Cooperation Department Olesya V. Karelova were also present.

SUAI was represented by the Vice-rector for International Affairs K. Losev, the Director of the Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Communication A. Belugin, the Head of the Department of International Activities E. Belich.

Prof. Sander lectured on Ultrashort pulse fiber lasers and their applications demonstrating the latest achievements in laser technology and fiber optics with prospective applications of ultrashort optical pulses in engineering and medicine.

The meeting was followed by a discussion on international cooperation with SUAIs SPIE/OSA students at the Departments Electronic and Laser Device Design and Technology lab.

May 22, 2017 in Da Vinci hall the grand opening of the International Week was held. The welcoming speech was addressed by Yulia A. Antokhina, the rector of SUAI, and by the President of SUAI and the head of UNESCO Chair Anatoly A. Ovodenko. Among the honorary participants of the event there were also the Vice-Rector for International Affairs K.V. Losev, the director of the Institute of Entrepreneurship Technologies A.S. Budagov and the rector of the Indian Financial Institute, Professor Aman Agarwal.

SUAI at Karaganda Economic University of Kazpotrebsoyuz

May 17-21, 2017 The delegation of SUAI Law Department visited the Karaganda Economic University of Kazpotrebsoyuz (Kazakhstan) to participate in the International Conference on The Theoretical and Practical Aspects in Law Studies: Modern Problems and Solutions.

Prof. V. Boyer, Doctor of Law, Dean of SUAI Law department, and assistant prof. M. Serbin, the Deans Deputy, spoke on modernization and transformation as basic social processes and their influence on the legal system.

The Conference was co-chaired by S. Baburin, Head of the Russian Law Universities Association.

The delegation also had a meeting with the chair of the Kazakhstan Constitutional Council in Astana to promote Russia-Kazakhstan contacts and cooperation.

The visit finished with the sitting of the Russian Law Universities Association to discuss problems and prospects of law studies in Russia.

Creative Activities

For decades, SUAI graduates leading designers, chief engineers, heads of large industrial enterprises have been shaping the aircraft, the space and the instrumentation engineering.
