Brief Overview

Modern information processing technologies have changed not just the socio-political structure, but the mode of life and thinking. Information becomes increasingly valuable which demands its study as a legal phenomenon. Nowadays law and order are established by legal information and legal information services. These resulted in a new branch in legislation – laws and regulations on data protection.

The Department offers courses in “Information law”, “Legal informatics”, “Computer technologies in science and education”, “Juridical support of innovation activities”, “Legal support in economy”, “Legal support of information security”.

The Department consists of leading experts in the field of legal informatics and information law: Viktor M. Boer, PhD, Prof., Honored Lawyer of RF, Evgeny I. Kultyshev, PhD, Irina V. Timofeeva. Many are practicing lawyers within the legal community of Saint Petersburg.

The main areas of the Department’s researches include Russian information and legal policy, Ñonstitutional law on vocational education in Russia, Legal regulation of information security, Codification of information legislation.

Programs

In addition to Bachelor and Master programs, the Department offers the doctoral degree program in Administrative law, financial law, information law.

The Department runs a special research group for to investigate into the most topical issues in the field of information and comparative law, the problems of regulation of legal relationships and the intellectual property protection. Through seminars and trainings, students gain practical skills in modern information and communications systems.
